Teeth Cleaning

We always ask our new patients, have you been going to the dentist regularly? And if you've failed to maintain a regular schedule of teeth cleaning, polishing, and oral exams you can be certain your smile has room for improvement. It is important to remind you that coming to Dr Vaughan for regularly scheduled cleanings and exams will provide:

• Optimal Cosmetic Appearance - You know that feeling after you get your teeth cleaned? The feeling that your teeth look and feel their very best. At Dr Vaughan's dental group we use the latest techniques, equipment, and specially formulated cleaning agents to achieve exceptional cosmetic results. Most stains can be easily removed and you'll leave with a noticeably whiter smile.

Healthier Teeth and Gums - Maintaining regularly scheduled exams for the removal of plaque above and below the gum line is critical to maintaining good oral health. Not only does teeth whitening and polishing improve the cosmetic appearance of your teeth but it also keeps the surface of your teeth smooth, which makes it more difficult for plaque to stick to your teeth. Your gums are at risk as well. Gum tissue is sensitive to plaque and if not taken care of can lead to receding and/or bleeding gums, infections and even tooth loss.

Teeth Fillings

When a filling for your tooth is required, a composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling.

When choosing a type of filling material there a many to choose from, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. You and Dr Vaughan discuss the best options for restoring your teeth. Composite fillings, along with silver amalgam fillings, are the most widely used today. Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.

As with most dental restorations, composite fillings are not permanent and may someday have to be replaced. They are very durable, and will last many years, giving you a long lasting, beautiful smile.

Tooth Extractions

When you find that some of your teeth are “pulled” because they are severely decayed. Others may have advanced periodontal disease or are broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth) or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems related to your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which can have a major impact on your dental health. To avoid these complications, Dr Vaughan will discuss alternatives for replacement of the extracted teeth with you in our Yorktown office.
Routinely the jaw bone will shrink soon after the removal of a tooth and continue to do so with time. Those patients wanting a dental implant may benefit from grafting bone in the extraction site at the time of the removal of the tooth to minimize any shrinking that may interfere with
